Whaling and sailing songs from the days of Moby Dick

Two hundred years ago, every lamp that burned in America was filled with oil made from the carcass of a great whale. This program features authentic 18th and 19th century sing-along shanties, saltwater sailor ballads, and whaling songs. Hear about the inspiration for Melville's greatest work: the sinking of the whaleship Essex by a 90' enraged bull sperm whale on November 20, 1820.

One of the premier autoharpists in the world, Adam Miller is a renowned American folksinger and natural-born storyteller who accompanies his rich, resonant baritone voice with lively finger-picking acoustic guitar and stunningly beautiful autoharp melodies.
